The Boston Red Sox will have some difficult decisions to make in the offseason, but they could eliminate one of those by giving Alex Bregman the type of contract he's looking for right now.

According to reports, if the Red Sox and Bregman don't come to an agreement on a deal before the trade deadline, it's possible he could be dealt.

It remains uncertain what the Red Sox's exact plans are, but it'll be interesting to see, as many teams would have interest if they made him available.

When speaking about the situation, Craig Breslow gave some information on where things stand. He added that the team wants to bring Bregman back, but for now, the focus has been on getting him healthy. It was later reported that Bregman will return on Friday.

He later added that he's somebody the Red Sox would love to have in a Red Sox uniform for a very long time, which is a promising sign.

“I think ‘ongoing’ is always a fair summary, given this is something on our mind and it’s something on Alex (Cora’s) mind,” Breslow said, per NESN.

“I’d say the priority over the last two months has been doing everything we can to get Alex back on the field, but I’ve been pretty outspoken about what he’s provided on the field and in the clubhouse. … He’s a guy we would like to have here in a Red Sox uniform for a long time.”

Bregman was swinging the bat at a very high level before going down, and one could’ve made an argument that he was swinging it better than ever.

However, he's been out since the end of May, so it's tough to say whether giving him a lofty extension now makes sense.
