The Boston Red Sox have had a solid start to the 2025 MLB season as they look to make the playoffs for the first time since 2021.

Boston has begun the season 18-16 as they sit second in the American League East, just two games behind the New York Yankees.

On Friday, the Red Sox were able to pick up their 18th victory of the season at home in their first game of a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins.

Boston got off to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning after Alex Bregman launched a solo home run.

The Red Sox were then able to use a three-run eighth inning to grab the victory as they took the first game of the series over the Twins.

While the Red Sox were able to grab the victory on Friday night, they also suffered a major loss after first baseman Triston Casas was removed from the game in the second inning after stepping on first base awkwardly while trying to beat out a throw.

Casas then laid on the ground, grabbing at his left knee before being stretchered off the field and taken to a hospital.

After the game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora made an unfortunate announcement regarding Casas’ injury.

Cora told reporters that Cases suffered a significant knee injury and is still at the hospital.

This is a massive blow for the Red Sox at it sounds as though Casas could be out for an extended period of time, or possibly the rest of the season.

The 25-year-old first baseman was struggling to begin the season as he was batting only .184 with three home runs and 11 RBIs.

Despite this, Casas has played a key role for Boston since making his MLB debut in 2022, but he has had injury problems during his career.

With Casas now likely to miss a large amount of time, the Red Sox have some key decisions to make on who they use to replace him.
