It was announced on Tuesday that Chris Caray, the great-grandson of Harry Carry, had been hired by NBC Sports California and would serve as a play-by-play announcer for the upcoming season. Last week Jenny Cavnar was hired by the network as the team's primary play-by-play voice, making her the first woman in history to hold the position across MLB.

Carey will be the fourth generation of his family to serve in Major League Baseball as a play-by-play announcer, following his great-grandfather Harry with the Chicago Cubs, his grandfather Skip with the Braves, and his dad Chip, who is currently calling games with the St. Louis Cardinals. Chris also has a twin brother, Stefan, who had been calling games with him in Double-A as the color commentator.

It should also be noted that Harry Caray was in the A's booth for the 1970 season after a quarter-century with the Cardinals.

“Ever since I was a 12-year-old kid, I dreamed of becoming a Major League broadcaster,” said Caray. “Now, I’m thrilled that that dream has come true. I’m honored and proud to join a franchise with the rich history of the Oakland A’s, and I can’t wait to grow along with this young, exciting team and my new partners with NBC Sports California, Jenny Cavnar and Dallas Braden.”

For those that have been asking, Dallas isn't going anywhere. Both Cavnar and Caray serve as the play-by-play announcers, while Braden is the color commentator. Cavnar was hired as the primary play-by-play voice, which means she'll be doing the bulk of the games, but not the full 162-game season. That's where Caray comes in.

The dynamic in the booth should be a lot of fun with Braden and Cavnar having a long friendship, then you throw in the addition of Caray and his analytical approach to the game and A's broadcasts will have a different feel in 2024. Change can be scary for some, but these two new additions look like they'll be great fits in the booth.
