Mets' Francisco Lindor: 'It sucks' being booed amid slow start

Four-time All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor joined the New York Mets via a January trade from the Cleveland Indians and then put pen to paper on a 10-year contract extension worth $341 million in late March. The 27-year-old hasn't produced much at the plate since then, as he's hitting only .212 with a single home run and three RBI across 18 regular-season games.

Fans as Citi Field booed Lindor during Tuesday's loss to the Boston Red Sox after he failed to reach base late in the contest, and he told reporters ahead of Wednesday's matchup against Boston that he's not used to hearing that sound at the ballpark:

Lindor said during his comments:

"It's interesting, and it's funny and it sucks. It doesn't feel right, for sure. Interesting because it's the first time that it's happened in my career. And funny because I'm getting booed and people think I'm gonna go home and think, 'Oh, wow. I'm getting booed.'

"I get it. They're booing because there's no results. That's it. They expect results. I expect results. I get it. It's part of the job. People expect results and they're booing because there's no results. I just hope they cheer and jump on the field when I start hitting home runs and start helping the team on a daily basis a lot more than I'm doing right now."

He continued:

For what it's worth, even the most pessimistic Mets fans shouldn't question Lindor's defensive abilities or his dedication to winning at this early stage of the season:
