Mets scoreboard continues to joke with Shohei Ohtani after broken sign
Even though he is not pitching for the remainder of the season, Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani is still putting on quite a show at the plate.
That continued on Saturday night in a 5-3 win over the New York Mets, and he was hitting the ball with such authority that he actually broke the signage at Citi Field. The Mets responded with a funny message for the superstar.
The Mets continued to have fun with the incident on Sunday, kindly asking him to stop breaking things with a scoreboard message for him during his first at-bat.
In the first inning of Saturday's game he cranked a foul ball down the the line that hooked just foul and broke the scoreboard signage next to the foul pole.
Ohtani went 2-for-3 with a double and his league-leading eighth triple of the season after that, while also drawing a pair of walks.
His pitching future is still unknown after a tear in his UCL was discovered, but he is still going to be able to dazzle baseball fans at the plate. He has been the best hitter in baseball this season, leading all of the major leagues in home runs (44), triples (eight), slugging percentage (.672) and OPS (1.083). He has also walked 83 times and stolen 19 bases while hitting .307 for the season.
Combined with his pitching, where he was one of the top starters in the league before his injury, he has put together one of the most dominant individual performances in baseball history for a third consecutive season.
