The Chicago Cubs have plenty of their top prospects on the verge of making the Major League roster, or their debuts, for the upcoming season.

Spring Training is a great opportunity for these players to showcase what they can do to the coaching staff and front office.

One who was taking full advantage was Brennen Davis.

The outfielder was taken in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Cubs. He put together a great performance in his first full year of professional baseball, slashing .305/.381/.525 with eight home runs and 30 RBI across 50 games.

He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2021 after the 2020 minor league season was canceled.

However, Davis was never quite able to put it together at that higher level and rotated between the different affiliates in their farm system.

The 25-year-old seemed to have figured things out during Spring Training this year, slashing .429/.556/1.000 with three hits, a home run, a double and three RBI across seven at-bats.

Unfortunately, Maddie Lee of The Chicago Sun-Times reported that he is in concussion protocol after being hit by a pitch.

They're calling it a "mild" concussion. His timetable to get back on the field is currently unknown as he goes through the process that comes with suffering that injury.

This is another chapter of untimely incidents that have plagued him the past two years. He suffered from core injuries resulting in surgeries that forced him to miss time, and he's already dealt with another concussion after previously being hit by a pitch.

Davis seemed like a prime candidate to make his Major League debut at some point during the 2024 season even if he didn't get picked up for Opening Day.

Hopefully when he returns, he can continue his strong performance at the plate and show how can he impact Chicago at the MLB level.
