Two Yomiuri Giants players test positive for coronavirus

Two Yomiuri Giants players have tested positive for the coronavirus the Nippon Professional Baseball team announced Wednesday, according to the Japan Times. Shortstop Hayato Sakamoto and catcher Takumi Oshiro are the first players in Japan known to have tested positive for the novel virus since March.

The Nippon Professional Baseball league announced in May that regular-season games would resume on June 19, and there's been no word on how the positive tests will impact the leagues' return.

The positive coronavirus tests could put other leagues around the globe in jeopardy.

Germany's Bundesliga has had a successful restart, and that has pushed La Liga, Serie A and the English Premier League to return to action later this month. Meanwhile in the United States, the NBA is pushing for a July 31st resume while Major League Soccer is looking to resume training this month.

Leagues around the globe have insisted positive coronavirus tests won't cancel their seasons, but now it seems that they'll need to at least consider it in the coming weeks as the virus could have long-term effects that are unknown.
