Watch: Fans fumble and lose Aaron Judge's historic home run ball No. 61
It was a piece of baseball history, and it likely would have been a golden ticket of sorts.
No, it wasn't the record-breaker, which will be priceless. It was Aaron Judge's 61st home run of the season, though, which means that he's now tied with former Yankee Roger Maris' American League record for most home runs in a season.
That's quite a baseball to catch, and several fans at the Toronto Blue Jays' Rogers Centre had a chance to catch it.
Alas, the ball was ultimately fumbled and fell away from the fans.
Perhaps it's baseball poetry. After all, two of the three fans who had a shot at the ball were Blue Jays fans. Roger Maris Jr. and Judge's mother were both at the game sitting in the front row above New York's dugout, so perhaps the fact that the baseball ended up out of the stands could mean one of those two — or Judge himself — ends up with it.
According to the New York Times, the baseball could fetch anywhere between $250,000 and $350,000, while the 62nd home run ball could be worth up to $1.15 million.
That's an expensive baseball.
