The Los Angeles Dodgers came up short of their ultimate goal for the 2026 season with their elimination in the National League Championship series.
The failure of this season sparked debate about the team’s outlook for next season and whether its current dynastic run has come to an end.
“For us, and we’ve talked about this a lot, even after successes and winning a World Series and then winning back-to-back, everything we do is for our fans. There’s a lot of noise around us in general. We don’t really pay much attention to it,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said.
“It’s the partnership we feel with our fans, and so people saying that we’re done and we’re on the downside of this run, it’s just more noise to us because everything for us is about the motivation we have to have a parade in the streets of Los Angeles next November. That is all of our of our motivation.
“So the outside stuff just doesn’t matter to us because everything for us is about the partnership we have with our fans. The way they showed up this year, the way they poured themselves into this team, a lot of our disappointment is rooted in how much we disappointed them.
“And so it’s about doing everything we can to win the last game of next year and feel that joy again throughout the city.”
Similarly, free agent Tarik Skubal is also a believer in the Dodgers’ chances of being a World Series contender next season. Given his firsthand experience in 2026, Skubal cited the Dodgers’ talent, preparation and work ethic as reasons to not buy into the narrative their dynasty is over.
Furthermore, Miguel Rojas has faith in the organization’s ability to put this season behind them and come back even better in 2027. Rojas finds it difficult to bet against a team with Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts on its roster.
MLB free agency began the morning after the World Series concluded, and for the Dodgers, that technically entails nine players reaching the open market. Though, it’s truly only eight free agents due to Rojas’ decision to retire.
In addition to making decisions on their own players, L.A. will almost certainly look to upgrade their roster through free agency and trades. The team has already identified some areas that they would like to improve in, but also face the added challenge of navigating a potentially turbulent offseason overshadowed by a looming MLB lockout.
