The Pittsburgh Pirates have been one of the more disappointing teams so far in 2025, as their failure to build a competitive squad around Paul Skenes for the second year in a row has led to a 9-15 start.
The main problem with the roster has been the lineup, with the team ranking 25th in home runs and 26th in batting average and OPS.
Many fans have pointed the finger at owner Bob Nutting, with chants of "sell the team" being audible at most home games this season.
Pirates legend and five-time All-Star Andrew McCutchen weighed in on the team's early struggles, responding to an angry Pirates fan who made a controversial take on Cutch's playing time.
Well thank God ur not a GM. Didnt know the season only lasted thru the month of April https://t.co/k8zWTP5J4e

McCutchen was responding to a fan who suggested he should be traded to a contender at the deadline to give young players like Jack Suwinski, Henry Davis and Billy Cook more time to develop.
McCutchen then replied to his own tweet, saying: "I'm about to get off this app. It truly is a dark and depressing place. Let me go touch grass."
It's a fiery response from the revered outfielder, who hasn't been shy about using social media to call out unsavory narratives. Recently, McCutchen dispelled a notion on X that Jorge Lopez intentionally threw at him in a tense exchange between the Pirates and Washington Nationals last week.
There's still plenty of time left in the season, but early signs are not pointing towards the Pirates being a competitive team this year.
Skenes, their superstar pitcher, doesn't seemed thrilled either. On Saturday, Skenes' promotional bobblehead attracted lines around the ballpark and into downtown Pittsburgh, but the Pirates lost 3-0 to the Guardians.

McCutchen is right, and it is only April. Clearly, the players are frustrated at the start to the season and are looking to right the ship before it's too late.
