Andy Pages Undergoes Surgery For Left Hand Fracture

At the time of revealing Andy Pages sustained a left hand fracture when he was hit by a pitch from Pittsburgh Pirates starter Bubba Chandler, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged it was possible he would undergo surgery.

Roberts then on Sunday announced Pages had a “minor procedure” to insert a pin or screw into his hand. The expectation Pages is to return in four to five weeks, and that was the case regardless of whether or not surgery became necessary.

According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Pages had a screw inserted into his left hand as a means of accelerating the recovery process from the fracture.

With the general timetable the Dodgers have, Pages would return before the start of the playoffs. The 2026 regular season ends on Sunday, Sept. 27, which is just over five weeks from when Pages suffered the injury.

Considering the relatively tight window, the Dodgers would certainly stand to benefit from finishing with a top-two record in the National League and therefore clinching a bye in the first round of the postseason. That would afford a few extra days for Pages to continue getting healthy and use that time to log at-bats against live pitching during workouts.

Otherwise, the Dodgers are looking at the potential of starting a Wild Card Series the day after the regular season concludes.

However that unfolds, L.A. faces a tall task in filling the void created by Pages’ hand injury. Alek Thomas was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City and has an RBI in each of his first two starts with the Dodgers thus far.

Thomas is going to continue playing center field when the Dodgers face a right-handed pitcher, and Enrique Hernández or Tommy Edman will fill in when a southpaw is on the mound.

Pages’ 17 defensive runs saved (DSR) is first in the NL and second only to Ceddanne Rafaela of the Boston Red Sox (19). Pages is batting .272/.338/.458 with 25 doubles, 21 home runs and 80 RBI. He earned a first career All-Star Game selection and was on pace to set personal highs in doubles, homers, RBI and on-base plus slugging percentage.
