The Los Angeles Angels (67–76) are in the midst of yet another disappointing season, but at least the team has young stars emerging as key pieces for the near future.
Jo Adell in particular has seemingly finally broken out as a true offensive threat at the major-league level after five seasons of subpar performance. Adell had been ranked as a consensus top-10 prospect prior to his MLB debut in 2020 but never performed well enough to warrant a legitimate spot on the big-league roster.
The 26-year-old outfielder has had an impressive year across 136 games, posting a .243 batting average, .303 on-base percentage, .811 OPS, 35 home runs and 94 RBIs—all career highs.
Ahead of the Angels’ series opener against the Minnesota Twins on Monday, Adell was removed from the lineup hours before game time, raising concerns among fans. Moments later, the team announced the reason behing Adell's removal was vertigo.
“Jo Adell (vertigo) has been scratched from the lineup, the #Angels announced,” wrote MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger.

This is an unfortunate development for the Angels, as Adell had just won American League Player of the Week for his exceptional play last week. Over his last 29 plate appearances, Adell had collected 11 hits, five home runs, 12 RBIs and two walks with a ridiculous 1.448 OPS.
Adell will remain under team control for two more seasons after 2025, so it’s in the Angels’ best interest to be cautious with their emerging star. Still, it’s disappointing he’s experiencing vertigo after such an impressive stretch, especially given his difficult path in the major leagues.
His status will be monitored in the coming weeks as the Angels’ season comes to an end.
