The Los Angeles Angels announced some news about Ron Washington on Friday.

The Angels said that Washington will not return to manage the team this season. Instead, Ray Montgomery will remain as the team’s interim manager.

Washington was placed on medical leave last week due to an undisclosed issue. At the time, the Angels said that Montgomery would move from bench coach to manager. He will remain in that role.

Though Washington will not return as the Angels’ manager this season, he apparently received some positive news about his health. Angels general manager Perry Minasian told reporters on Friday that the news they received regarding Washington was “fortunate.”

Washington, 73, was in his second season as the Angels’ manager.

A former player, Washington has coached in MLB since 1996. He managed the Texas Rangers from 2007-2014 and took them to consecutive World Series in 2010-2011. He has gone 103-139 in two seasons as the Angels’ manager.
