Angels Announce Yoan Moncada News After Leaving Yankees Game

The Los Angeles Angels are hosting the New York Yankees on Wednesday evening in the final contest of this three-game series. New York took the first two games in Anaheim, dropping the Angels to 25-29 and fourth in the AL West.

This recent skid for LA comes after an eight-game winning streak. One of the biggest contributors during that stretch was veteran third baseman Yoan Moncada. A budding star with the Chicago White Sox in 2019, Moncada posted a 140 OPS+ that season before injuries and overall poor production saw his career trajectory go significantly downhill the following few seasons.

Entering Wednesday, Moncada's 123 OPS+ was his highest since that breakout 2019 campaign. This is why there was an understandable level of concern among Angels when he exited the series finale in the sixth inning without any explanation.

Shortly after Moncada was removed, the Angels announced he left with right knee soreness.

This vague description did not do much to ease the concern among Angels fans, and there will likely not be a more concrete update until manager Ron Washington addresses reporters postgame. As previously mentioned, injuries were a major contributing factor to Moncada's overall career decline. He last appeared in 100 games during the 2022 season with Chicago, and played just 12 all of last season.

As he attempts a career revival in Anaheim, Moncada will certainly hope this knee issue is not something that halts what has been a productive 2025 campaign. The 30-year-old infielder is in his 10th career MLB season.
