Angels await X-ray results on former MVP

Just four days after being named to his 11th All-Star Game , Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout is in danger of heading to the injured list.

After Monday night's game against the San Diego Padres Trout told the media, "something felt uncomfortable," following an 8th inning foul ball against Nick Martinez, via ESPN.

Trout underwent x-rays and other examinations on his wrist following the game, and while the team hasn't released the results yet, Trout's description of the injury will not be good news for Angels' fans.

"I'm just praying the results come back clean. It doesn't feel great," he said. "Hopefully just a sprained wrist. I can't describe the pain I felt. I've never felt it ever before this."

Over the past several seasons Trout has widely been considered one of the top players in baseball, but in recent years he's been hampered by injuries, missing extended periods of time in five of the last six seasons.

In 2021 Trout played just 36 games before a calf injury ended his season. In 2022, he revealed he was dealing with a chronic back condition that threatened to derail the rest of his career. Instead he returned and became the sixth player ever to hit 40 home runs in 120 games or fewer per Sports Illustrated.

Despite fielding two of the best players in the world, the Angels are in third place in the American League West. Their 45-42 record also currently has them out of the AL playoff picture (six games behind the Rangers in AL West, three games out of wild card spot), something that will be incredibly difficult to improve upon if the former MVP misses any significant amount of games.
