Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe exited Saturday night's game against the Kansas City Royals with left wrist irritation, the team announced. The Angels were ultimately defeated 12-1 by the Royals in Kansas City as well.

It was a difficult night for the Halos to say the least. Royals ace Cole Ragans shut down the offense, while Kansas City's lineup found success against Los Angeles' pitching. Almost nothing went right for the Angels on Saturday. The team fell to 12-16 overall with the defeat.

O'Hoppe, 26, has struggled to begin the new campaign. He is hitting .205/.323/.256 across 26 games played. O'Hoppe has just one home run as well. Regardless, he still has potential and the Angels are obviously hopeful that he will not have to miss too much time.

O'Hoppe has hit at least 19 home runs in each of the past two seasons. He has been one of the better offensive catchers in the sport. Many catchers struggle at the plate, but O'Hoppe has recorded some respectable numbers from an offensive standpoint. At only 26 years old, it would not be surprising to see him take a step forward at some point down the road.

The focus at the moment is on his injury concern of course. The Angels will monitor and provide updates on Logan O'Hoppe as they are made available.

Angels Lose to Royals on Saturday

As previously mentioned, the Angels were not able to get much going on Saturday night in Kansas City. Walbert Urena started the game and he allowed four earned runs across 3 and 2/3 innings of work. Urena walked five hitters as well.

The bullpen did not help matters. Los Angeles' relievers combined to surrender eight total runs in the defeat. The Halos did not have an answer for the Royals' lineup.

Offensively, the Angels were able to record eight hits. Vaughn Grissom had three of the hits in the game. Jo Adell hit a home run as well. Overall, though, it was an underwhelming performance for the lineup.

The Angels now trail the Royals in the series 2-0. They are hoping to avoid a sweep on Sunday. Left-handed starting pitcher Reid Detmers (1-2, 4.08 ERA) will do everything he can to help Los Angeles earn a victory on Sunday.

First pitch for Sunday night's game between the Angels and Royals is scheduled for 7:20 PM EST in Kansas City.
