A Los Angeles Angels minor leaguer outfielder — Rio Foster — is in critical condition as a result of a serious car accident, according to the team's statement.

The Tri-City Dust Devils and the Hillsboro Hops, who were set to play on Friday, have cancelled their game following the incident involving the Dust Devils outfielder.

In response to the cancelled game, the Dust Devils released the following statement:

"The thoughts and prayers of the entire Dust Devils organization are with Rio Foster who was a passenger in a car accident early this morning and sustained serious injuries," the statement read.

"Tonight's game against the Hillsboro Hops has been canceled."

Foster was taken in the 16th round of the 2023 MLB Draft and started the season in High-A, where he managed to win the August Player of Month award in the Northwest League.

In 93 games this season, the outfielder is hitting .267/.407/.439 with 10 home runs, 40 RBIs, and eight stolen bases.

The Angels organization also released a statement regarding Foster.

"Earlier today, the Angels Organization learned that Rio Foster, a member of our Tri-City affiliate, was a passenger in a serious accident in Richland, WA," the statement read.

"Rio is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital and remains in critical condition. We ask that the entire Angels Community joins our Organization in keeping Rio and his family in their during this difficult time."

Angels Manager Ray Montgomery on Rio Foster Car Accident

Additionally, interim manager for the Angels, Ray Montgomery, addressed the car collision ahead of Friday's Angels' big league game against the Athletics at Angel Stadium.

“Unfortunately, I’m working on limited [information], but what I do know is, obviously it's way more important than anything we're doing here today,” Montgomery said.

“Just thinking about him and his family. He's a great kid, we had him in Spring Training. We talked to him. He was a little bit of a later-round Draft pick, and he's done some good things when we saw him in Spring Training. And he was named Player of the Month recently. So I mean, his career was obviously in a good spot, but that's all on hold. Praying for the best is all we can do.”

The Angels should continue to provide updates on Foster as they become available.
