Angels place RHP Jose Soriano on paternity list

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano was placed on the paternity list prior to Wednesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Soriano, 26, can miss up to a maximum of three games while on the list.

The Angels recalled right-hander Chase Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.

Soriano was slated to start a game in the three-game weekend series against the visitin g Chicago Cubs prior to the announcement. When he returns to the team will be the prime factor in determining when he pitches next.

Soriano is 8-9 with a 4.00 ERA in 26 starts this season, his third in the majors. He has set career highs for victories, innings pitched (148 2/3) and strikeouts (130).

Silseth, 25, is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in two starts for the Angels this season. He is 5-5 with a 5.06 ERA in 25 appearances (17 starts) in parts of three seasons.

The Angels have lost four of five games entering Wednesday's contest.
