Angels share crucial Logan O’Hoppe injury announcement

Currently locked in a series-opening clash on the road versus the Cleveland Guardians, the Los Angeles Angels will attempt to claw their way out of the AL West basement. Down 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the odds of a comeback are slim, but not impossible. Ahead of the Monday night tilt, the Angels’ official PR page on X, formerly Twitter, announced that catcher Logan O’Hoppe will begin a rehab assignment Monday evening.

“C Logan O’Hoppe is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment tonight with the ACL Angels,” shared the team’s official PR page.

The start of a rehab assignment for O’Hoppe comes at a good time. His backup, Travis d’Arnaud, recently went on the IL as well. d’Arnaud is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, so it might be some time until he returns. Meanwhile, O’Hoppe’s rehab assignment will see if his wrist is up to the task of being behind the plate almost every day.

At the moment, the Angels are running with a duo of Sebastian Rivero and Omar Martinez behind the plate. Martinez was promoted when d’Arnaud hit the IL. Rivero is in his second stint with the major league roster. After playing in 11 games last year, the 27-year-old has already played in 11 this season as well. So far, he’s hitting .158, with three singles and a walk. Martinez is currently in his first-ever major league stint, making his major league debut in Saturday’s 14-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. If Los Angeles hopes to get out of the AL West cellar, it will need O’Hoppe back from his rehab assignment as soon as possible.
