Tony Vitello is building out an All-Star staff in San Francisco, highlighted by a pair of beloved former Braves. Ron Washington has been hired as the club’s infield coach, and joining him as bullpen coach is the recently retired Jesse Chavez.
The Giants are adding another familiar face to staff: Longtime big league reliever Jesse Chavez will be their bullpen coach. Chavez spent 18 seasons in the big leagues and pitched for nine different teams, most recently the Braves last season.

Jesse Chavez had an infamous run in Atlanta, where the Braves just couldn’t seem to get rid of him. Over a four-year stretch, they traded him and designated him for assignment what felt like a hundred different times. He bounced around the league, but somehow always found his way back to Atlanta — and every time he did, he thrived. Across 190 appearances as a Brave, Chavez posted a 3.30 ERA and became one of the most reliable arms in the bullpen.
He also helped Atlanta win the World Series in 2021 and was universally loved — by fans, teammates, and coaches. He’ll fit seamlessly into a Giants clubhouse that’s suddenly loaded with intriguing personalities.
Buster Posey is running the show in the front office, supported by legends like Dusty Baker and Bruce Bochy, while Tony Vitello will share the dugout with Ron Washington and now Jesse Chavez.
