The Chicago White Sox are making one of baseball’s greatest turnarounds in 2026. After losing 102 games last season and an unfathomable 121 games in 2024, the White Sox are bringing memorable baseball back to the Southside. Backed by taking a risk on Japanese superstar Munetaka Murakami and getting unbelievable production from players like Colson Montgomery and Miguel Vargas, Chicago has taken the American League Central by storm.

Knocking Off Baseball’s Best

The White Sox took the first two games from the Atlanta Braves, the team with baseball’s best record as well as two of three from the back-to-back reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers. In the four wins played during the homestand this past week, the White Sox put up a total of 22 runs, including a game-changing six-run inning against the Dodgers on Sunday.

With the final game of the series against the Braves being postponed to later in the season, the White Sox could potentially still sweep the strongest team in all of baseball. The weekend series against the Dodgers was a showcase of how potent the lineup for Chicago can be, even without its premier slugger Murakami.

Chicago’s Offense Continues to Surge

Chicago’s offense is not one that will grab most fans’ eyes. Despite the lack of known names and a payroll that ranks 27th this season, the White Sox’s offense ranks in the top 10 in runs scored, home runs, team OPS, and team slugging. Though the collective team batting average ranks in the bottom half of the league, when the batters connect with a pitch, it is almost certain to do damage.

With Murakami on the Injured List with a grade two hamstring strain, the offense is picking up where it left off, seemingly not missing a beat. Miguel Vargas ranks second in all of MLB in home runs by a third baseman, while Colson Montgomery leads the league in home runs by a shortstop with 17. Seeing this young group of players continuously develop and take over the baseball world is truly shocking.

Can the White Sox Make A Postseason Run

With nearly half of the season finished, the White Sox lead the American League Central Division, holding a 38-32 record. Getting Murakami back from injury will be a big piece in what is sure to be a threatening offense, and with the trade deadline approaching at the beginning of August, Chicago fans have reason to be excited.

The White Sox could use a true ace at the front end of its rotation, due to its starting rotation holding a combined 4.29 ERA, ranking it 20th in all of baseball. To pair with a front-of-the-line starter, Chicago could also use a closer. Seranthony Dominguez has 11 saves this year, but has looked shaky at times recently, allowing walks and 10 home runs this year.

End of My White Sox Rant

The Chicago White Sox are playing the best baseball the Southside fans have seen in several years. Players are beginning to become household names, and the team has a certain swagger about it now. The trade deadline will be crucial for the White Sox, as many insiders believe the team will be a buyer, looking to add to an already very capable team. Whether the team can continue the early success it has had will remain to be seen, but undoubtedly, baseball is back in Southside Chicago.
