Astros 'ghosted' Carlos Correa in contract talks?

Carlos Correa’s decision to sign with the Minnesota Twins came as a surprise, even to many within the industry.

Prior to Correa joining the Twins, there had been growing speculation that the Houston Astros might be favored to re-sign the shortstop in free agency. However, that agreement clearly was never as close as some suggested.

John Granato of ESPN Radio 97.5 reported that the Astros “ghosted” Correa in the week leading up to him signing with Minnesota. Correa’s camp supposedly never heard from GM James Click or owner Jim Crane, despite efforts to speak to both.

The Astros ghosted Carlos Correa this week. James Click said he would get back to them and never did and Jim Crane did not respond at all to Scott Boras’ texts.

In addition, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Astros never actually updated their contract proposal to Correa. The shortstop was left with the same offer of five years and $160 million he reportedly received in November.

Reports indicated that the Astros were negotiating with Correa less than a week ago. If these reports are true, however, it does not sound like the Astros were willing to go the extra mile to bring their shortstop back. They may live to regret that.
