As rumors have surrounded the Houston Astros regarding their struggles and potential moves the team could make, there has been speculation about the status of star slugger Yordan Alvarez. With the baseball world wondering if the Astros are putting an Alvarez trade on the table, general manager Dana Brown speaks on the chatter.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Brown would negate any talk that Houston is willing to trade Alvarez at this point in time, saying that there has been no discussion of the sort, according to Brian McTaggart.
“We’ve had zero conversations internally about moving Yordan,” Brown said. “Zero.”
Alvarez is in the midst of a stellar season with a .311 batting average to go along with 22 home runs and 48 RBIs, as Brown would say how the 28-year-old is a “big part of what we’re trying to do going forward.”
“We love what Yordan is doing right now,” Brown said. “We love what he’s done in his career here, we feel like he’s a big part of what we’re trying to do going forward, and he’s a pillar in our lineup. So, I mean, we’re trying to compete this year. We still think we’re gonna get to the postseason.”
It remains to be seen how the Astros will conduct themselves ahead of the trade deadline, whether the ball club will be buyers or sellers, but Brown is confident in the team’s chances at the AL West.
“We still feel like we have a strong shot at the division,” Brown said. “You know, we’ve gone through some injuries, but now other teams are starting to feel some of the pain that we felt, right? And so we feel like we have an opportunity to win the division and go deep into the postseason. So we’ve had zero discussions internally with our baseball operations about moving Yordan.”
At any rate, Houston currently holds a 31-37 record, which puts them fourth in the division and four and a half games back of the top spot, as it includes the Seattle Mariners at 35-32.
