Astros’ Latest Carlos Correa Announcement Should Raise Jeremy Peña Concerns

The Astros made arguably the flashiest trade of the 2025 deadline, acquiring 2017 world series champion Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins, who paid off a portion of Correa's remaining mega-contract.

The trade for Correa came after the Astros' announcement that Isaac Paredes would miss the remainder of the season with a torn hamstring. Correa was initially signed to play third base in Paredes' absence, despite shortstop being Correa's predominant position.

In Friday's game against the Red Sox, the Astros made a move on Correa that should raise some alarm bells.

The Astros moved Correa to shortstop in the bottom of the 10th inning of their 2-1 loss to the Red Sox, according to The Athletic's Chandler Rome.

MLB.com reporter Brian McTaggart wrote that Correa's move to shortstop might raise some alarm bells on Peña, who went 3-for-5 in his return tonight from a small rib fracture which had sidelined him since June 27.

The trade for Correa was supposed to shore up the Astros' third base problem, and it's unclear exactly why the team moved Correa to shortstop from third base, replacing Correa at third with newly signed Ramon Urias.

The litany of possibilities for Peña's removal could be injury related, or it could be performance related, but it is certainly not what you want to see in Correa's long-awaited debut.
