The Houston Astros recalled right-handed pitching prospect Miguel Ullola from Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday ahead of their series finale against the Detroit Tigers. To make room on the active roster, Houston optioned right-hander Kai-Wei Teng back to Triple-A after Saturday's game.
If Ullola appears Sunday, the 23-year-old will make his big-league debut. He is immediately available out of the bullpen as Hunter Brown takes the mound opposite Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty in the series finale at Comerica Park. For a prospect who has spent five years working his way through Houston's system, Sunday represents the moment he has been building toward.
Ullola signed with Houston as an international free agent in 2021 and spent the early stages of his professional career as a starter before the organization shifted him to a relief role last month.

The move has paid off. The Astros' No. 11 prospect has shown improved command while his fastball has reached a career-high 97.3 mph, giving him a weapon that profiles well at the big-league level.
He reinforced his case for a promotion with consecutive scoreless relief appearances for Sugar Land, including a three-strikeout inning June 24. The Astros clearly saw enough to pull the trigger on his promotion rather than waiting any longer.
Teng's demotion comes one day after he allowed four earned runs over 3 2/3 innings against Detroit before acknowledging afterward that he had been dealing with arm fatigue.
The Astros opted to send him to Triple-A rather than place him on the injured list, preserving roster flexibility while allowing him time to recover. It was the sensible move given the circumstances, and Ullola was ready and waiting to fill the void.
With the bullpen covering significant innings following Teng's abbreviated start Saturday, adding a fresh arm with legitimate swing-and-miss potential provides valuable depth behind Brown and helps reduce the workload on the club's late-inning relievers.
The Astros enter Sunday's finale looking to secure another series victory before returning home for a six-game homestand against the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays, making bullpen health a priority.
For Ullola, the promotion represents an opportunity to establish himself in Houston's bullpen after successfully adapting to his new role in the minors.
A strong showing Sunday could strengthen his case for a permanent roster spot as the Astros push through the second half of the season, and given the trajectory he has been on, that opportunity feels well earned.
