The Houston Astros’ Nick Allen has provided an update on his injury after he left Sunday’s game against the Oakland Athletics with left hamstring discomfort. Allen picked up the injury in the third inning of the game. He hit a single and ran hard toward first base before he felt tightness in his left hamstring.
Allen immediately slowed down and signaled to the dugout. He exited the game with a trainer, while Taylor Trammell entered as a pinch runner, and Matthews shifted to second base as Trammell took over in left field.
Allen explained after the game that he felt something grab in his hamstring as he tried to push for extra bases. He said he expects to undergo imaging on Monday to check the extent of the issue, but he still plans to travel with the team to Anaheim.
Astros reporter for the Houston Chronicle, Matthew Kawahara, reported that Allen described the moment as a sharp pull in the lower part of his left hamstring. Allen also said he felt frustrated because he wanted to stay in the game, especially with the team rotating players that day.

The Astros will know how severe his injury is, once he undergoes imaging on Monday, and he will travel to Anaheim. Before the injury, Allen played a key role in Houston’s infield rotation. He started his sixth game of the season at second base. He also contributed as a utility option across the infield during the year.
The 27-year-old entered Sunday’s game hitting .266 with a .304 on-base percentage and a .344 slugging percentage over 70 plate appearances. He also hit one home run this season, and his steady contact production gave Houston flexibility in the lower part of the lineup. However, the Astros struggled as a team in the loss.
They fell 5-0 to the Athletics and finished the game with only four hits. The defeat marked their fifth shutout loss of the season as they dropped to 30-37 on the year. The loss also ended a difficult homestand for Houston.
The Astros went 4-5 over nine games at home and failed to build momentum during the stretch. Their offense struggled throughout the series, and they could not break through against Oakland’s pitching on Sunday.
Allen’s injury only adds to the team’s frustration with lineup changes during the game, and his early exit forced more adjustments in the infield. The team will now wait for medical results to determine whether he will miss time. Houston now shifts its focus to the next series in Anaheim, where Spencer Arrighetti will start the opener against the Angels.
