The Houston Astros have had mixed results during the early stages of the 2025 MLB regular season. At the time of this writing, the American League West team sports a 2-2 record.
Now, the Astros have made an early-season trade. The club has announced that they have acquired pitcher Nick Robertson from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for minor league pitcher Edinson Batista.
Robertson was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays last week. Now, he is getting a fresh start following this trade to the Astros.
Robertson will now provide the Astros with more pitching depth moving forward. The 26-year-old made appearances at the major league level in each of the previous two seasons. In 27 career MLB games split between the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, and Blue Jays, he has a 0-1 record, 5.30 ERA, and 40 strikeouts.
There is no harm in the Astros taking a chance on Robertson. At a minimum, the 6-foot-6 right-hander will give the Astros another option to consider for their bullpen. However, there is still potential for him to hit a new level in the majors, and it will be interesting to see if he does just that with Houston from here.
