The 2019 American League Rookie of the Year will only play in two games this season.
Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker confirmed to reporters that slugger Yordan Alvarez will miss the rest of the year due to a partially torn patella tendon. Alvarez will undergo surgery sometime next week:

Alvarez missed the first several weeks of the season due to a bout with the coronavirus, but he homered in his debut last Friday versus the Seattle Mariners and seemed ready to begin his pandemic-shortened campaign. However, the 23-year-old was scratched from Sunday's game with knee discomfort and underwent a Monday MRI that reportedly revealed no serious injury.
On Tuesday, Houston announced that Alvarez had been placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Sunday.
Earlier Wednesday, Baker admitted that it appeared Alvarez was lost "maybe for the year" during an appearance on Houston sports-talk radio station KBME 790.
Alvarez hit .250 with one home run and four RBI in his only two appearances.
