The Atlanta Braves announced a number of roster moves today, including the release of relief pitcher Aaron Bummer from the roster. Bummer had been a member of the Braves organization since 2024.

The 32-year-old was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2014 but wouldn't make his MLB debut until 2017. After spending seven seasons with the White Sox, Bummer was traded to the Braves during the offseason in November 2023.

Bummer played three seasons with the Braves, making one MLB playoff appearance for Atlanta in 2024. He pitched for 2.2 innings, not allowing a single run while also striking out one batter in the Braves' National League Wild Card loss to the San Diego Padres.

The left-handed pitcher ended the 2024 MLB season with a 4-3 record through 56 games played. He posted a 3.58 ERA while striking out 69 batters in 55.1 innings played.

Bummer kept the same pace in the 2025 MLB season, despite playing less games. He was credited for two games saved and finished with a 3-2 record.

Across 42 games, he posted a 3.81 ERA, slightly higher than his 2024 MLB season performance. He also struck out 51 batters across 54.1 innings played.

Bummer's 2024 MLB season would come to a halt after he ended up on the 15-day injured list due to left shoulder inflammation. A few weeks later, he was placed on the 60-day injured list, effectively ending his season.

Bummer found his way back onto the roster for the start of the 2026 MLB season, but it was noticeable that the injury he suffered from last season lingered onto this season. Despite only playing 19 games this season, Bummer recorded a 7.63 ERA, the highest in his entire career and the most since his 2023 MLB season with the White Sox.

Through 15.1 innings played, Bummer struck out 13 batters but also gave up 15 runs. Bummer never found his rhythm following the injury and suffered heavily through his performances as a result of it, making it an easy decision for the Braves to release him from the roster.

With Bummer no longer on the team, the Braves have decided to reinstate relief pitcher Dylan Dodd from his rehab assignment to replace Bummer in the bullpen. Even with Bummer being removed from the roster, the Braves currently sit atop the NL East and have the best MLB record across the entire league.
