Baltimore Orioles Roster Moves 5/13

The Baltimore Orioles are about to start a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. They are 6-1 against the American League East so far this season sweeping the Boston Red Sox and taking three of four from the New York Yankees and they have outscored those two teams 36-16 in those seven games. Today will feature the Orioles ace Corbin Burnes going up against Toronto’s ace Jose Berrios. The Orioles lead the American League East by a half-game over the Yankees with both those teams going 7-3 in their last ten games. Today before they start their series Baltimore has made a roster move by calling up outfielder Kyle Stowers from Triple-A Norfolk and in the corresponding move they have sent 33^rd overall prospect by ITD in outfielder Heston Kjerstad down to Triple-A Norfolk. On top of that move, they announced they have reinstated outfielder Austin Hays from the 10-day injured list and with that, they have designated outfielder Ryan McKenna for assignment.

Orioles Roster Moves By The Numbers

Kyle Stowers

Stowers was drafted in the second round of the 2019 MLB draft by the Orioles. In 2022 he played in 34 games with the Orioles slashing .253/.306/.418 with a .724 OPS; he had four doubles, one triple, three home runs, 11 RBI, 11 runs scored, and five walks. Last season, in 14 games he slashed .067/.152/.067 with a .218 OPS; he had one run scored and three walks. At Norfolk this season he’s played in 36 games slashing .240/.315/.541 with a .856 OPS; he has 11 doubles, 11 home runs, 32 RBI, 26 runs scored, and 13 walks.

Heston Kjerstad

Kjerstad was drafted second overall in 2020 by the Orioles. Last season, he played in 13 games getting his first taste of the big leagues slashing .233/.281/.467 with a .748 OPS; he had one double two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored, and two walks. He started the season with Norfolk in 21 games he slashed .349/.431/.744 with a 1.176 OPS; he had four doubles, ten home runs, 30 RBI, 25 runs scored, one stolen base, and two walks leading to his call-up. With Baltimore in seven games, he slashed .143/.294/.143 with a .437 OPS; he had two walks only as he recorded two hits in 14 at-bats.

Austin Hays

Hays returns after being on the 10-day injured list with a calf injury. He is in his seventh season with Baltimore who drafted him in the third round of the 2016 MLB draft. This season he is slashing .111/.200/.111 with a .311 OPS; he had two RBI, four runs scored, and four walks, he is looking to follow up his All-Star campaign last season.

Ryan McKenna

McKenna was drafted by the Orioles in the 2015 MLB draft in the fourth round. He’s spent four seasons with the Orioles and this season he slashed .375/.444/1.125 with a 1.569 OPS in nine games; he had two home runs, two RBI, three runs scored, and one walk. He will either be claimed or sent down to Triple-A or will opt out of his contract. It’s likely he is claimed or sent to Triple-A.
