PrizePicks has become the most popular Pick’Em-style fantasy platform in the United States. For fantasy baseball players who are used to draft rooms, waiver wires, and season-long strategy, PrizePicks is super simple and creates more immediate gratification with much less work.
The purpose of this article is to be a guide for how beginners can get started and how they can succeed with a small starting amount of money.
Before you get started to deposit money, you should get yourself a promo code to get some extras. Getting started on PrizePicks takes only a few minutes. It is what you would expect: download the app, create an account, allow the app to see your location so that PrizePicks can be sure that you are allowed to play, then add an online payment wallet like PayPal.
I suggest that you deposit $25 and that you go to the deposit limits and set the amount you are comfortable to lose while you learn. When I start a new platform, I set $100 per month as my maximum deposit amount. That makes sure that I do not lose more than $100 in any given month.
Once the season starts, I like to allow for at least 10 days of the season to go by. This allows all pitchers to have two starts and hitters to have 7–8 games played.
Once you open your app, you choose MLB from the sports menu. You will see a list of games and available player picks for that day. You will see the player name, team, picks category with projected stats, and two buttons: “More” and “Less.”
We recommend that you start by only using strikeouts for pitchers, total bases for hitters, and fantasy points.
PrizePicks offers two main entry formats. The Power Play mode does not allow you to get any of your picks wrong in order to win. The Flex Play allows you to get one wrong and still win.
Payouts depend on the number of picks that you get correct:

As you can see, you can make money for imperfect selections, but when you are perfect, there is a significant difference between the two formats.
PrizePicks also has special projections with names to entice you to select them.
These exist so that PrizePicks does not have to change projections midstream, but can still allow users to take advantage of easier plays or take bigger risks. We play these sometimes, but not because of the more or less odds ... only when the analysis supports it.
As noted earlier, you should stick with the easiest metrics to predict. Stick with strikeouts for pitchers and total bases for hitters. We also like fantasy points for pitchers, as strikeouts may fall short but the pitcher can still accumulate points.
Review the set of games that are available and look for hard-throwing pitchers in pitcher’s ballparks versus bad teams, or hitter’s ballparks versus good teams.
Also look for hot hitters in hitter-friendly parks facing a pitcher who throws with the opposite hand and has been bad recently. Then review the most recent 5–6 outings.
For pitchers, look at strikeouts first, then review SwK, FpK, velocity, and GB% to confirm sustainability. Then decide More or Less.
For hitters, look at batting average, OBP, OPS, Brl%, exit velocity, and FB% to determine how hot a player is. Then make sure to select players with a high wOBA versus the handed pitcher they face. Then decide More or Less.
Select only your three favorite plays. You can expand beyond three, but anything more than three becomes very difficult to win. Early wins help confirm that the process is working.
PrizePicks is super fun, and the community keeps you engaged without feeling alone. Pick’Em contests are a great way to enhance season-long play and add nightly excitement.
Play responsibly and try to win roughly what you lose so your bankroll remains entertainment. Use the tools on the site to control deposits and entries.
