It was sadly announced this Saturday that longtime MLB scout Scott Littlefield has passed away. He was 59.

Littlefield had 33 years of experience as a scout. For the past 15 years, he has been working with the Texas Rangers. According to The Dallas Morning News, he was with the franchise on their current road trip. He had a strong working relationship with manager Bruce Bochy.

No cause of death has been released at this time. The only information out right now is that Littlefield was found dead Friday in a Houston hotel.

"The Texas Rangers are devastated by the passing of Scott Littlefield," said Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young, via The Dallas Morning News. "Scott was one of the most respected scouts in Major League Baseball who had an incredible impact on this organization. His voice was influential in all aspects of our baseball operation from professional, amateur, and international scouting to Major League player evaluation. He was an invaluable resource and advisor.

"More importantly, he was one of the most genuine and caring individuals in the game. The Littlefields are a baseball family with his two children and two brothers all working for MLB teams. Several of us were just with Scott in Houston this week, and his passion for our team never waned. I join the entire Rangers family in sending our thoughts and prayers to his wife Heather, children Tyler and Erika and all of Scott’s family."

MLB community reacts to Littlefield's death.

As you'd imagine, baseball reporters and scouts are devastated by this Saturday's news.

"A Major League Baseball organization is made up of so many people. A select few among them are at the heart of what is great about that organization. Scott Littlefield meant the world to the Texas Rangers. A husband, father to two, and friend to many," Rangers broadcaster Jared Sandler said.

"This makes me horribly sad. Scott was engaging, funny, and great at what he did. Had many conversations about players over the years that I walked away from a smarter fan. A lifer who loved the game," Jamey Newberg of D Magazine wrote.

"We lost one of the good Dudes today. Super Scout Scott Littlefield of the Texas Rangers . Rest Easy Friend," Alan Regier commented.

Littlefield is survived by his wife and two children. His son, Tyler, is currently a scout with the San Diego Padres.

Our thoughts are with Littlefield's loved ones.
