The rash of Los Angeles Dodgers pitching injuries claimed another member on Saturday, with Blake Treinen the latest to fall victim.

Treinen was put on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation. The roster move came just over one hour before first pitch against the Baltimore Orioles. Chayce McDermott was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Treinen’s roster spot.

Treinen dealt with right forearm tightness last season, which resulted in an extended absence. He was eventually transferred to the 60-day injured list and ultimately missed just over three months. The latest trouble marks Treinen’s first time landing on the IL this season.

The veteran reliever just appeared in Saturday’s game, throwing a scoreless ninth inning before the Dodgers rallied for a walk-off win. Before that, Treinen hadn’t pitched since June 14.

Treinen has gone 4-1 with a 3.52 ERA in 29 games this season while having somewhat of a rebound year. Across 23 innings, he’s struck out 9.78 hitters per nine while walking 3.91 per nine while also pitching to a 3.49 FIP.

Even after a poor 2025 season that saw Treinen post a 5.40 ERA in 26.2 innings, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has maintained his trust in the right-hander, continuing to use him in high-leverage spots. Treinen has recorded six holds and one save while blowing two saves.

The 37-year-old started the season well, but has since struggled in June. However, that was also a common theme for the Dodgers’ bullpen.

He is in his sixth season with the Dodgers, recording a 23-20 record with a 2.84 ERA in 215 games, while throwing 199.1 innings with 230 strikeouts, 74 walks, 74 holds, 12 saves, and 14 blown saves.

Treinen has been in the Major Leagues for 12 years with the Washington Nationals (2014-17), Athletics (2017-19) and Dodgers (2020-), going 49-42 with 83 saves and a 2.93 ERA in 560 games.

Treinen is in the final season of a two-year, $22 million contract he signed with the Dodgers in December 2024.

Chayce McDermott replaces Blake Treinen

Treinen’s injury creates a second opportunity for McDermott to join the team. He was acquired in a trade that sent Axel Perez to the Baltimore Orioles in April.

McDermott made his Dodgers debut in the finale of the Freeway Series on May 17, throwing a scoreless inning. He was optioned to Oklahoma City the following day as a corresponding move to the Dodgers’ signing of Jonathan Hernández and adding him to the roster.

McDermott is 0-1 with an 11.85 ERA in six Major League games (two starts). The right-hander made his MLB debut with the Orioles in 2024, though he only started one game. McDermott also pitched in four games (one start) for Baltimore last year.
