Wednesday was a good day for Toronto Blue Jays prospects participating in the Arizona Fall League.
Tuesday saw the Glendale Desert Dogs fall 7-3 to the Salt River Rafters. Of the five hits that they had in that game, two belonged to the Blue Jays as Josh Kasevich and Cutter Coffey had a hit apiece, while Kasevich walked twice. Pitching didn’t go as well, as Alex Amalfi started the game and gave up three earned runs, as did Yondrei Rojas in his inning of work. Chay Yeager was tagged with the loss, giving up an earned run in his inning of work, while Kai Peterson was the lone Blue Jay pitcher to not give up a run.
Unfortunately for the Desert Dogs, Wednesday’s game also resulted in a loss as they fell 11-10 to the Surprise Saguros in 10 innings. Kasevich had a rough game, going 0-6 with a strikeout, but the same cannot be said for Cutter Coffey and Edward Duran. The former hit a double and a single to bring his slash line to .375. Duran, on the other hand, went 2-4 with a walk and two doubles in his Arizona Fall League debut.
Duran had a breakout season in 2025, slashing .275/.362/.405 with eight home runs in 431 plate appearances between Single-A and High-A. With the Vancouver Canadians, Duran was teammates with Coffey, who slashed 2.73/.359/.427 with 11 home runs in 440 plate appearances, spending the entire season at the level. As for Kasevich, he missed most of the season due to injury, only returning to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons late in the season.
The Desert Dogs gave up a whole bunch of runs, but thankfully, no Blue Jays’ prospect pitched in this game. There’s a good chance that Peterson, Yeager, and Rojas could be available for Thursday afternoon’s game.
Next up for the Desert Dogs is a matchup against the Scottsdale Scorpions on Thursday at 3:30 PM ET.
