© Nathan Ray Seebeck - USA Today

The Glendale Desert Dogs are back in the win column.

On Wednesday, Toronto Blue Jays prospects were back in Arizona Fall League action, as the Desert Dogs defeated the Peoria Javelinas 6-4 to move to 2-3 for the season.

Four different Blue Jays’ prospects factored into the game. On the offensive side of things, Josh Kasevich got the start at shortstop, while Edward Duran made his second start of the season behind the plate. He caught starter Alex Amalfi, who made his second start, while Chay Yeager faced two batters out of the bullpen.

Kasevich’s lone hit of the game came in the top of the first, as he hit a bloop single to put two runners on. The next batter was retired, ending the inning. In Duran’s first plate appearance, he earned a five-pitch walk, with none of the pitches being close to the strike zone, including the pitch he swung at.

In his next plate appearance, Kasevich earned a walk, but was stranded on first. Duran then grounded out in the top of the fourth, moving the runner over to second. Kasevich’s next plate appearance in the top of the fifth saw him strike out swinging, but with one out and the bases loaded, Duran hit a bases-clearing triple to score three runs, coming into score shortly after due to an error.

Both Kasevich and Duran hit into an out in their next plate appearance, Kasevich a flyout and Duran a popout. In their final plate appearance of the game, both Kasevich and Duran grounded out. Each player finished 1-4 with a walk, while Kasevich struck out.

As for the batted-ball data, two of Duran’s batted balls were considered hard hit (95 mph or harder). His ninth inning groundout registered an exit velocity of 97.8 mph, with his triple’s exit velocity clocking in at 97.2 mph. His two other batted balls in play came in at 73.7 mph and 72.9 mph.

Kasevich’s single registered an exit velocity of 64.6 mph, the softest hit ball from him on Wednesday. His flyout had a 91.7 mph exit velocity, and his groundout had an 83.5 mph exit velocity.

Starting the game for the Desert Dogs was Alex Amalfi, who went two and one-third innings. He gave up three earned runs, walking two and striking out a batter to move his ERA in the AFL to 10.13. His fastball averaged 93 mph and touched 94 mph, using his slider 44% of the time.

Chay Yeager pitched in relief, with his fastball averaging 97.1 mph and touching 97.9 mph. He threw two of the fastest pitches in the game, while his cutter generated three whiffs on five total swings.

Next up for the Desert Dogs is a road game against the Scottsdale Scorpions on Thursday at 8:30 PM ET.
