Blue Jays: 2025 Arizona Fall League Game 6 recap
© Nathan Ray Seebeck - USA Today

Another day, another loss for the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League.

Although the Desert Dogs fell 5-3 to the Scottsdale Scorpions to drop to 2-4, the two Toronto Blue Jays’ prospects participating in this game had a good day. Cutter Coffey returned to the lineup after missing Wednesday’s game, while Josh Kasevich hit third.

Things started well for the Desert Dogs, as they drew a lead-off walk. A steal and an error put a runner on third for Kasevich, who drove in the run with an RBI groundout. Coffey also grounded out in his first plate appearance.

In his next plate appearance, Kasevich struck out looking as Travis Honeyman stole third base. Honeyman didn’t come into score as Ryan Galanie flew out. That meant that Coffey led off the top of the fourth, hitting a single and reaching second thanks to an error. Coffey was left stranded on third.

Moving to the fifth inning, Kasevich earned a walk to put two runners on base with one out. It was Kasevich who drove in the third and final run for the Desert Dogs as he hit a line drive single to make it 3-0. That lead evaporated in the bottom of the fifth, as the Scorpions scored five runs.

Kasevich led off the top of the seventh with a single, but was thrown out trying to advance to second. That same inning, Coffey struck out swinging to end the inning. Both players got a chance to bat in the top of the ninth, as Kasevich hit his second single of the game to put two runners on. With the bases loaded, Coffey struck out swinging, and the next batter flew out to end the game.

Diving deeper into the stats, Coffey’s line drive single was the hardest hit ball of the game, clocking in at 107.4 mph off the bat. Kasevich’s seventh-inning single had a 104.4 mph exit velocity, good enough for the third-highest in the game. Coffey’s other single came in a 101.1 mph, the sixth-hardest hit ball in play from this game.

Kasevich’s other two balls in play were considered hard hit, as his other single had a 99.3 mph exit velocity, while his RBI groundout had a 97.2 mph exit velocity. Coffey’s other ball in play, a groundout, had an exit velocity of 45.8 mph, the slowest hit ball in play in the game.

With the two singles, Kasevich is now slashing .227/.414/.227 in 29 plate appearances in the Arizona Fall League. Coffey has found better success in the AFL, as he’s slashing .490/.435/.455 with a double in 23 plate appearances.
