The Toronto Blue Jays have one of their top relievers back in the big leagues.

Before tonight’s game against the Yankees, the Blue Jays announced that they are bringing back Yimi Garcia from the injured list, with left-hander Mason Fluharty being optioned down to triple-A to make space on the active roster.

Garcia rejoined Toronto on a two-year pact this winter and was one of the arms used in high-leverage spots out of the bullpen to start the season. Through 21 appearences, Garcia authored a 3.15 ERA and a 2.99 FIP through 20 innings before landing on the IL. The right-hander posted a 10.8 K/9 in the process while limiting opposing bats to a 5.0 H/9 and a .155 average.

The veteran arm didn’t allow an earned run until his 15th outing on May 3rd, giving up four via a grand slam late against the Cleveland Guardians. He would allow another three runs in his next outing against the Angels, but dialled it back in after that, allowing just two hits through his next five outings before the shoulder injury put him on the IL. Garcia made three relief appearences in June before getting called back up to the Jays, allowing three hits and zero earned runs.

Heading to Buffalo in a corresponding move is left-hander Mason Fluharty, who has struggled over the past month after being one of the most effective options down in the Jays’ pen to start the year.

After posting a 3.52 ERA through April and May, the southpaw has seen his ERA skyrocket over two full points, and he’s allowed 12 earned runs and 16 hits through 11 innings of work. Opponents own a .991 OPS off the Jays reliever this past month, and he’s walked a few more batters compared to the previous two months as well.

With Fluharty back in Buffalo, Brendon Little and Justin Bruihl are the current left-handed options in the Jays’ bullpen.
