Blue Jays Announce Changes After Three Straight Losses

The Toronto Blue Jays didn't just get swept by the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend, they got dominated. The Phillies outscored them 22-6 over the three-game set, with Saturday's 3-2 finish being the only close game.

The Blue Jays are only 1.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for second place in the AL East, but their -12 run differential is the second-worst in the division. The New York Yankees lead at +102, followed by Tampa Bay at +68, the Boston Red Sox at +24, Toronto, and the Baltimore Orioles at -79.

The Blue Jays shook up their roster ahead of Tuesday night's tilt with the Arizona Diamondbacks, via their social media.

The club recalled right-handed pitcher Paxton Schultz from Triple-A and activated him for Tuesday's game. It also selected southpaw Justin Bruihl to the big-league roster, designated right-hander Erik Swanson for assignment, and placed right-hander Bowden Francis (shoulder) on the 15-day IL.

Francis is 208 with a 6.05 ERA across 14 starts this season, while Schultz is 2-0 with a 3.06 ERA over eight appearances and Swanson is 1-0 with a 15.19 ERA over six outings. Bruihl hasn't pitched a big-league game this season, but he's 2-2 with a 4.62 ERA over 79 appearances.

Right-hander Chris Bassitt (7-3, 3.70 ERA) will start for Toronto on Tuesday against Arizona right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (8-4, 5.50 ERA). The Blue Jays will host the Diamondbacks for three games before hosting the Chicago White Sox.

After that, they'll hit the road to face the Cleveland Guardians and Boston Red Sox.
