The Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jonatan Clase has been a footnote in a positive start to the season for the Canadian club. The 23-year-old came into Tuesday's game vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks slashing .208/.274/.286 with one homer and six RBI over 24 contests.
The Blue Jays acquired Clase and Jacob Sharp from the Seattle Mariners in July 2024 for right-handed pitcher Yimi García, but he only played seven big-league games after the deal. He was also optioned to Triple-A Buffalo to begin this season.
Unfortunately for Clase, he'll now have to overcome an injury he suffered on Tuesday, via the team's social media.
"UPDATE: OF Jonatan Clase was removed from tonight's game with a right knee contusion," the club announced.
Clase flied out to center in the second inning before getting hit by a pitch in the fourth, which knocked him out of the game. Fellow outfielder Myles Straw replaced him, but he exited after smashing his right leg on the center field wall while tracking down a fly ball, via Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. The Blue Jays then replaced Straw with Alan Roden.

The Mariners signed Clase as an international free agent in July 2018 and made his MLB debut in April 2024. The 5-foot-10, 150-pounder slashed .246/.303/.328 with one homer and five RBI over 26 games last season.
Toronto came into Tuesday's contest on a three-game losing streak and 6-4 in its last 10. It also owned the AL's second Wild Card spot, sandwiched in between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox.
