The Toronto Blue Jays’ difficult homestand continued Saturday with a 7-4 loss to the Texas Rangers at Rogers Centre. It was Toronto’s fifth straight defeat overall and its third consecutive loss to Texas, dropping the club to 39-44 on the season. The Blue Jays also fell into a tie with the Baltimore Orioles for third place in the American League East, holding the tiebreaker while slipping further behind the division-leading New York Yankees.
Texas took control early and never relinquished it. The Rangers opened the scoring in the first when Jake Burger’s RBI single plated Corey Seager, then broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning.
Toronto’s offense came almost entirely from Yohendrick Piñango, whose two-run homer in the fifth got the Blue Jays on the board, and Alejandro Kirk, who hit a solo homer in the sixth. Ernie Clement went 3-for-4 with a double, Piñango finished with two RBIs, and Nathan Lukes recorded two hits, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. endured another difficult afternoon, going hitless and grounding out three times.
Shortly after the loss, the Blue Jays announced a trade, acquiring catcher Owen Carapellotti from the Athletics in exchange for right-handed pitcher Hayden Juenger.

Carapellotti, 27, has yet to make his major league debut but has developed into a reliable upper-level catching prospect. The move strengthens Toronto’s catching depth, with Kirk and Brandon Venezuela already anchoring the unit.
Juenger, meanwhile, departs after appearing in two games for the Blue Jays this season. The right-hander, who holds a 13.50 ERA, made his major league debut against the Orioles, and has served primarily as bullpen depth in Toronto.
The Blue Jays will try to avoid a four-game sweep when they face the Rangers in Sunday’s series finale.
