Blue Jays are reportedly sign Cuban pitching prospect Silvano Hechavarría

On Saturday, Francys Romero reported that Hechavarría was declared a free agent and noted that the Blue Jays would be signing him to a bonus of $250,000 to $300,000. The Blue Jays will have $6,261,600 in signing bonus money.

There’s a lot to like about the right-handed pitcher. He stands at 6’4”, with his fastball sitting 92-94 mph and touching 97 mph. He also features a slider that sits 84 mph, a changeup that sits 82-84 mph, and a curveball that sits 76 mph.

This isn’t the only Cuban prospect who has reportedly been in negotiations with the Blue Jays. Romero reported on Thursday that the Blue Jays have officially signed outfielder Yorman Licourt to a signing bonus of $600,000 (counted towards this season’s pool).

Licourt is also a big lad, standing at 6’4”, 215 lbs who can switch hit. There’s some power in his bat, and he slashed .238/.304/.286 with a double in 23 plate appearances for Pinar del Rio in the Cuban National Series.

Aside from Hechavarría, the Blue Jays are reportedly still signing Kennew Blanco when the next international free agency period opens. Ranked as the #7 international prospect by MLB Pipeline, the Jays didn’t sign him in this period due to him being 17 instead of 16.

According to Marcos Grunfeld of The Beat Writer, Blanco was expected to sign for $1.7 million, but due to age falsification, he’ll sign for less in the 2025 period when he’ll be 18. It’s unknown how much he’ll sign for.
