Blue Jays: Arizona Fall League Game 12 recap

The Glendale Desert Dogs are on a five-game losing skid.

On Wednesday, the Arizona Fall League team that features Toronto Blue Jays prospects fell 10-6 to the Peoria Javelinas, dropping their record to 3-9.

Of the eight Blue Jays’ prospects on the Desert Dogs’ roster, only two of them participated in this game: Josh Kasevich and Edward Duran. Kasevich batted cleanup, while Duran batted eighth in the lineup.

In the top of the first, Kasevich’s first plate appearance didn’t go well, as he hit into a double play to end the inning. The following inning, Duran grounded out to end the second inning. Moving to the top of the fourth, Kasevich earned a five-pitch walk and was later cashed in thanks to a Patrick Clohisy home run to give the Desert Dogs a 4-3 lead.

Immediately following the home run, Duran grounded out to give the Desert Dogs their second out in the top of the fourth. They didn’t put any more runs on the board. In the bottom of the fourth, the Javelinas retook the lead and never relinquished it. Kasevich’s next at-bat came in the top of the fifth, flying out to the shortstop in foul territory.

For the third time in the game, Duran grounded out, this time in the top of the sixth to give the Desert Dogs two outs. Kasevich did the same in the top of the seventh, with Duran’s final plate appearance resulting in a flyout.

Neither Kasevich nor Duran struck out, putting the ball in play all but one time between the two of them. Kasevich’s walk was the lone exception, but also the only time either of them reached base. The shortstop’s hardest-hit ball was his fifth-inning flyout, which came off the bat at 89.2 mph. Kasevich’s two groundouts had an exit velocity of 70.3 mph and 68.8 respectively.

Duran finished the evening with one hard-hit ball, as his fourth-inning groundout came off the bat at 95.4 mph. His flyout had an exit velocity of 87.8 mph, while his other two groundouts had an exit velocity of 72.5 mph and 68.1 mph.

Overall, not a great day for the Desert Dogs or Blue Jays’ prospects participating in the Arizona Fall League. Their next action is on Thursday at 4:30 PM ET, as they face off against the Salt River Rafters on the road.
