Bo Bichette has had an incredible MLB career for the Toronto Blue Jays thus far. In seven big league seasons, the shortstop has posted a career .294 batting average and .806 OPS with 111 home runs and 437 RBIs. This has led to a pair of All-Star selections.
The 27-year-old played in 139 games in 2025 for the Blue Jays with a career-high .311 batting average to go along with 44 doubles, 18 long balls and 94 RBIs. He also was phenomenal in the field, garnering a .972 fielding percentage, which is the second-best number of his career.
In September, Bichette suffered a left knee injury, which held him out of the ALDS and ALCS. He returned for the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he went 8-for-23 with one homer, six RBIs and a .923 OPS.
This past season was the final year of a three-year, $33.6 million contract Bichette signed with Toronto before the 2023 season. With his contract expiring, Bichette is now an unrestricted free agent, and there is no shortage of suitors for the All-Star shortstop.
ESPN reporter Jeff Passan provided an update on where things stand around the league surrounding Bichette, as he named several teams that could benefit from having Bichette in their lineup.
"Beyond the Blue Jays, who have Andrés Giménez to play short but still could conceivably sign Tucker and Bichette, the Atlanta Braves and Detroit have holes at the most important position on the infield," Passan said.
While Toronto still has hopes of Bichette returning, the Braves and Tigers could be good landing spots for him. Since Dansby Swanson left Atlanta for the Chicago Cubs in 2023, the Braves have been searching for a good replacement to command the infield. As for Detroit, Trey Sweeney started 112 games at shortstop last season but batted just .196.
News in the offseason preview: Not only are the Pittsburgh Pirates going to spend this winter, they’re strongly considering giving the No. 1 prospect in baseball, 19-year-old Konnor Griffin, the opportunity to win their Opening Day shortstop job. Details: https://t.co/wCaimtSPZ9

"The Yankees could use an upgrade over Anthony Volpe and Jose Caballero," Passan continued. "The Mets aren't inclined to replace Francisco Lindor at shortstop, but they do have room to improve at second and third, as do the Phillies."
The two New York teams could definitely use another big bat in their lineups, and Bichette has the ability to play second or third base. Philadelphia has Trae Turner as its everyday shortstop, but could also improve at other infield spots.
While there is no definite deal in place for Bichette yet, whatever team he lands with will be getting an all-around star in 2026.
