Max Scherzer gave the Toronto Blue Jays an update on his recovery Thursday after his third rehab start, but the team is still waiting to make a decision on when and where his next outing could be, according to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.
Scherzer threw five no-hit innings in his start with Triple-A Buffalo, but told reporters after the outing not to read too much into it. The right-hander said he woke up Thursday feeling great and that his recovery, not his results, is the priority right now. The Blue Jays and Scherzer are still working through what his next steps look like.
Max Scherzer says he woke up on Thursday feeling great after his five-inning start on Wednesday. He says to pay no attention to his line (five no-hit innings); all that matters to him is that he’s recovering well.

Blue Jays and Scherzer are still working through his next steps
Scherzer has been managing his workload carefully since returning from injury, and Wednesday's outing marked another test of where his arm stands. The 41-year-old is in the final stretch of a career that includes three Cy Young awards and is likely on his way to Cooperstown. This season, however, has been a disappointing one for the veteran right-hander. In six starts with Toronto, Scherzer carries a 1-4 record with a 10.23 ERA and 14 strikeouts against 25 runs scored.
The type of precautions that Toronto takes with Scherzer could mean an extra day of rest, a tighter pitch count on his next start, or simply more time before the Blue Jays commit him to his next turn through the rotation.
Toronto is chasing a playoff spot in a crowded American League postseason race, and Scherzer's health could shape how the rotation looks down the stretch. If he continues to build up cleanly, the Blue Jays would get another arm back in time for the race to October.
