With the Blue Jays concluding their 2024 campaign, they are starting to look ahead to 2025, and one of the aspects of that is getting healthy. Last week, the Blue Jays witnessed multiple season-ending injuries amidst their roster, and the club announced the statuses of a couple of them on Monday afternoon.

OF Daulton Varsho underwent right shoulder surgery on Monday, although there were no details yet as to how it went nor a timetable for his return. Varsho had been bothered by some inflammation in his shoulder since late August, and he sought out first and second opinions from notable sports surgeons Dr. Keith Meister and Dr. Neil ElAttrache. Both professionals, who have given a number of opinions for Blue Jays players this season, suggested Varsho have his shoulder surgically repaired. This marks the first time since Varsho’s promotion to the major leagues that he has been on the Injured List.

Varsho appeared in 136 games this season, slashing .214/.293/.407 with a .700 OPS, 18 homers, and 58 RBIs. He accumulated a 4.8 bWAR and is also in prime position to secure the first Gold Glove award of his career. Although the extent of Varsho’s recovery has not been made clear, there is a chance that he could miss Spring Training of 2025 and also the beginning of the regular season. All of a sudden, Nathan Lukes, Joey Loperfido,  Jonatan Clase, and/or any off-season acquisitions could be auditioning for Opening Day outfield spots.

SS Bo Bichette, who can officially chalk this up as a season to forget, suffered a middle finger fracture prior to Wednesday’s game against the Rangers that ended his season. Just the day before, Bichette played in his first game since July 19th because of a calf injury, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Per TSN’s Scott Mitchell, Bichette will travel to Arizona and visit a hand specialist to determine the next steps.

Bichette’s 2024 season became a complete outlier from the rest of his career, slashing .225/.277/.322 with four homers and 31 RBIs through 81 games.
