The Toronto Blue Jays have seen injuries to some of their top players pile up throughout the first two months of the 2026 Major League Baseball season. This includes All-Star catcher Alejandro Kirk, three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer and third-year outfielder Addison Barger.
Barger was one of Toronto's heroes in the team's run to the World Series in 2025, batting .367 with three home runs and nine RBIs during last year's postseason. However, he has not been on the field much this season, as he has been limited to only nine games in the majors due to multiple injuries.
After missing more than a month with an ankle issue, Barger went back on the injured list on May 10 with right elbow inflammation.
Barger's recovery from this elbow inflammation has been slower than Blue Jays manager John Schneider initially expected and hoped, as it has now been three weeks since the 26-year-old outfielder took the field.
On Saturday, Sportsnet reporter Arden Zwelling gave an encouraging update on Barger's rehab, as he has now gotten back to swinging a bat.
"Addison Barger (elbow) has resumed hitting in the batting cages at Blue Jays complex in Dunedin; flips, tee work, etc," Zwelling said.

If Barger is able to continuously swing without pain or discomfort, he will likely face live at-bats before going on a minor-league rehab assignment. If all that goes well, Schneider and the Blue Jays will hope to have Barger back in the Toronto lineup.
In his nine games in the majors this year, Barger has just one hit in 22 at-bats. He will miss his 20th consecutive game because of the elbow injury when the Blue Jays take on the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
