Blue Jays’ Jameson Taillon leaves game with apparent injury

Jameson Taillon’s return was short-lived. 

On Friday night in the series opener against the Kansas City Royals, Taillon left the contest after tossing two innings and was replaced by left-hander Joe Mantiply. 

Taillon was making his first start with the Toronto Blue Jays since August 10, an outing he left after four scoreless frames due to right forearm tendinitis. 

The right-hander turned in a pitching line of 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, and threw 29 pitches (18 strikes) before departing. The lone run allowed came on a Bobby Witt Jr. solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. 

Activated from the 15-day injured list before tonight’s contest, Taillon was making his third start with the club since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs on August 2. Through his three starts, Taillon has recorded a 3.60 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. 

Currently in the final season of his four-year, $68-million contract he signed with the Chicago Cubs on December 19, 2022, Taillon is set to be a free agent at the end of the 2026 campaign. Through 18 starts this year, the 34-year-old has gone 2-6 with a 5.65 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.
