Blue Jays’ John Schneider Named AL All-Star Manager

It’s an amazing honor for Schneider, though it comes at a time when the team has just lost back-to-back winnable games against the Houston Astros and has seen its record fall two games below .500 on the season (39–41). Despite that, they still somehow remain in a wild card spot in the wide-open American League. That said, the Astros and several other teams are right on their heels.

The 46-year-old Schneider has gone 342–298 in the regular season to go along with a 10–12 postseason record across parts of five seasons leading the Blue Jays so far. His two-year contract extension signed in March runs through the 2028 campaign.

While some may question Schneider’s deservedness to manage in the All-Star Game, it should be noted that the only two teams in the AL having real success this year are the Yankees and Rays, whose managers — Aaron Boone and Kevin Cash — have both already done so in their careers.

Toronto’s slow start to the 2025 season took Schneider out of the running for any All-Star nod then, so you have to think part of the selection this time around has both their second-half surge and spectacular run to the World Series factored in.

This year’s All-Star festivities will take place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, with the actual game scheduled for Tuesday, July 14.
