Blue Jays linked to Dominican outfielder Michael Mesa, MLB Pipeline’s 30th-best 2026 IFA prospect
Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Come January, the Toronto Blue Jays will have a new influx of prospects coming from Latin America.

Recently, MLB Pipeline released their Top 50 list for the 2026 International Free Agent class, with the Blue Jays being linked to just one player on the list: Michael Mesa, not to be confused with San Jose Sharks player Michael Misa.

Mesa, 16, ranks as MLB Pipeline’s 30th-best prospect in the 2026 IFA class. Standing at 6’2”, 195 lbs, his scouting report notes that Mesa bats from the left side and has a good bat path and can lift the ball. There’s power potential with the outfielder, as Pipeline graded him to have a 50 power tool.

He’ll likely move to the corner outfield as he fills out his frame, with the only other position he’ll be able to play being first base because he throws left-handed. He’s an average runner, with an average hit and power tool, while being fringy with the arm and in the field.

In the coming IFA period (which starts on Jan. 15), the Blue Jays will have a signing bonus pool of $5.94 million. It’s worth noting that the bonus pool money acquired in the Myles Straw trade does not carry over to the next period.

The Blue Jays have been linked to another prospect in the 2026 IFA period, catcher Juan Caricote. He ranked as Baseball America’s 18th-best IFA prospect in their most recent update. You can read about him here.

It seems like the Blue Jays got a hit in the 2025 IFA class, as Juan Sanchez has become a top 10 prospect in their farm system. This season with the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays, the shortstop/third baseman slashed .341/.439/.565 with eight home runs in 253 plate appearances. It’s been a long while since the Jays had an IFA prospect breakout the way Sanchez has.

Hopefully, the Jays can find another diamond in the rough in the coming class. Over the past year and a bit, the Blue Jays’ farm system has grown significantly stronger, even with several top-rated prospects traded ahead of the 2025 trade deadline.
