Blue Jays Make Move Amid Troubling Addison Barger Development

The Toronto Blue Jays have been shorthanded in the outfield for nearly the entire 2026 season. Their everyday right fielder, Addison Barger, has continued to battle injuries all season long and has appeared in just nine games.

His absence has been felt heavily considering how much value he provided in 2025. Across 135 games last year, the 26-year-old left-handed slugger posted a .243 batting average, .301 on-base percentage, .756 OPS, 21 home runs and 74 RBIs.

Barger has dealt with three separate injuries this year and simply cannot get healthy. First, he missed a majority of April dealing with a sprained left ankle. He returned and played just one game before going down with right elbow inflammation.

Then, just as it appeared Barger had turned a corner during his rehab from the elbow, he experienced back discomfort and an MRI revealed a bone injury and small fracture, forcing him to stop baseball activities entirely.

With Barger's return still in question, the Blue Jays made a move Thursday to bolster their outfield depth in the minor leagues.

According to their transaction logs, they signed outfielder Daz Cameron to a minor league deal (h/t Thomas Hall of Blue Jays Nation).

There is no guarantee Cameron ever suits up for the Blue Jays, but given how depleted the outfield has been and how bad Toronto's injury luck has been this year, having him in the mix does not hurt.

Cameron is a former first-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft who never fully panned out at the big-league level. He last played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2025, appearing in 21 games. He does not offer much offensively but can be a valuable defensive piece if Toronto adds him to the 40-man roster.

He was playing in the KBO this season and was having a solid offensive stretch before being released, which makes the signing a low-risk flier worth taking.

For now, the most important development for Toronto's outfield remains Barger finding a way to stay healthy and eventually make it back onto the field, something that has proven far more difficult than anyone anticipated heading into this season.
